When you purchase the camera, it will prompt the cashier to scan the giftcard. Technically, no money is on the card until the transaction is completed, so you can not use it to pay for the camera. As the other person stated, if you are buying more stuff, you can do two separate transactions and use the card right away. However, if you return the camera, it will subtract the amount of the gift card from the amount they give you back. For example, let's say the camera costs $150, plus you get the gift card. If you return the camera, they will only give you $130, and you will still have paid $20 for the giftcard. If you were to then turn around a buy the camera using the giftcard, you will be charged another $150. You can then use the giftcard to pay part of it, but you'll still have to pay $130 out of pocket, and you'll be back where you started.
